
We are based in Horncastle, the gateway to the Lincolnshire Wolds. The Joseph Banks Centre, Bridge Street, LN95HZ.

We are open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. 10.00 am - 4.00 pm. The museum closes in January and February.

Horncastle is well known for antiques shops, bookshops, and cafes. It is also well placed to explore the Lincolnshire Wolds

Marwood was the public executioner who invented the long drop.He was a cobbler and lived in Horncastle.

Born & Educated in Horncastle Lodge, grew up to become a naturalist, artist, Falconer and taxidermist of national importance.

There is always a selection of Joseph Banks displays within the museum. Together with occasional special exhibitions.

Our Patron Sir David Attenborough once described Joseph Banks as “That great Panjandrum of British Science.” Robert Hobart in a tribute to Sir Joseph quoted “wide as the world is, traces of you are to be found in every corner of it”. These words are contained in a letter to Banks dated 18th October 1793. Below is a brief history of Sir Joseph Banks which examines his young life and influences, describes his adventures, discusses his success, summarizes his significance, and finally talks about the end of his life.
